A Note from Dr. Preston's Class in regards to Open-Source Learning

I just want to say that open source learning is a very fun and different way to do things. I would like to give you some pointers on how you should post things to your blog..

1. Whenever you can you should post pictures to your blog post that is relevant to what you are writing about.

2. Make your blog YOU, let your personality show through it.

3. If you learn something or you are talking about something in class post your opinion on it on your blog. Write about how you feel about the topic (in a good way/bad way, however you feel towards it).

4. You want to go above and beyond in your writing, because your course blog it's just being viewed by people in your class.. It's being viewed by people all around the world.

License to Edit

Class:

How do you want to be viewed?
Remember, our blogs are public and the purpose of them is not only to record our work, but to showcase our learning process. They will provide you with a competitive advantage over other sophomores who are blog-less.
That being said, one of the best ways to learn is through failure. Grammatically, many of our blogs are epic in this category.
I'm licensing you, as individuals, to scour our member blogs for asinine errors. When you spot them, comment on the member's blog as well as add it to the Editing Frenzy (Extra Credit) spreadsheet here~ (Also in Files for Students). And, voila, extra credit!
Yes, and when you see people giving you constructive feedback, don't get angry~thank them and fix the error.
Happy Editing!

Blogger Experts

I need a couple of you to sign up to host a "blogger for beginners tutorial" sometime next week. Major extra credit available for those willing to step up and lead (teach).
Comment to this post/message me at jostini@smjusd.org to get this started.

Regarding our class discussion of the use symbolism and allegory within Poe's story--here's your way to demonstrate your understanding:

You (and Partner will...)
1. Create a poster that depicts each of these symbols & what they symbolize (can be digital as well)
2. Provide written explanation of the significance of each (USE QUOTES)

Symbols
*The Rooms (Color, Location)
*The Clock (Color, Effect)
*Masques
*Fires
*Prospero / Red Death

Theme
(How does Prospero's attitude and what happens to him illustrate the story's theme?)
